Goldwing Static Display Scarborough
On Saturday 12th September, GoldWings will assemble from 9.30am to form a static display for public viewing on the promenade at Foreshore Road, in front of the lifeboat station, and it’s here where we shall collect for the RNLI Scarborough Lifeboats.

Pirates are the theme for Saturday’s Static Display of GoldWings in Foreshore Road, South Bay, so our enthusiastic members will be donning fancy dress to help raise “Pieces of Eight” and real money, for the Scarborough Lifeboats. Other members will be wearing yellow safety vests as they marshall the bikes into position. Trikes and three wheelers will be found in the West Pier Car Park next to the Lifeboat Station, along with two traders’ vans from Appleyards and Cusworths. Most of the solo GoldWings will be arranged down the promenade along Foreshore Road from the Lifeboat Station almost to the Olympia Amusement Centre.
The display of these magnificent touring motorcycles will give visitors a chance to get up close and also chat with the riders. In the lead up to the fabulous evening GoldWings Light Parade, all manner of fun and games will be found around the Lifeboat Station.
An additional attraction during the daytime will be a display of Birds of Prey, brought to the show by Jeff Bond of JTS Falcons of Burton upon Trent. Jeff, who has kept birds for over 30 years, and his son Scott operate a rescue service for injured or stray birds of prey.
However, the birds on display at Scarborough are birds born in captivity so visitors will be able to get up close since they are regular showstoppers.
Jeff is at jtfalcons@googlemail.com or on 07986 140447.
At our display area this year, there will be the usual tombola stall, a raffle, sale of SLP patches and possibly other regalia, Photo’ U on a GoldWing and free tea and coffee for exhibitors and marshalls. The Scarborough Lifeboat Station Supporters’ Group and the Scarborough 2nd Girl Guides will be there to assist with the raffle stall, tombola stall and the all important collecting boxes which have to be signed for.
We also have plans to involve a showcase of acoustic musicians who will be there to promote a Free Festival “Acoustic IV” Gathering at Peasholm Park on the Sunday.

To add a little fun to the daytime display, we are suggesting that our volunteers dress as Pirates if they possibly can. This is optional of course, but organisers are also hoping that some of those taking part in the evening parade could arrive in fancy dress on a theme of their choice, as we believe this will enhance the light parade spectacle by creating a carnival atmosphere for spectators.
At 3.00pm, the Mayor and Mayoress of Scarborough will be greeted by our Reps Tony Walton and Roger Morgan. After a brief guided tour of the display of bikes, they will be asked to choose their favourite GoldWings with four categories, GL1800, GL1500, Classic GoldWing and Three Wheeler. Prizes will be awarded to the winning owners about 4.00pm. The Mayor will also draw our raffle.
At 5.00pm the static display will end, but bikes may remain parked until 6.00pm to give exhibitors a chance to have a meal before assembling for the evening light parade in the Burniston Road Car Park at the north end of Scarborough just 500 metres up the road from Peasholm Park.
Those GoldWing riders arriving as day visitors for Saturday only should try to be at the lifeboat station as early as possible and preferably before 10.00am if they wish to take part in the RNLI charity static display. Day visitors will also be requested to inscribe at the lifeboat station immediately upon arrival and display an official sticker on their GoldWing to qualify for parking in the display and mustering areas.
To take part in either of the two displays or in the light parade, you will need to have read or received a copy of the safety notes, which form our risk assessment for the weekend’s activities.

Those exhibiting bikes must inscribe and display the official sticker in order to remain in the display and be covered by GWOCGB public liability insurance. Three wheelers will be directed to the car park area at the side of the lifeboat house and solos will park at 45 degrees to the kerb in Foreshore Road. This is necessary to enable the safe passage of buses and coaches alongside our display.
When this prime site is full, overflow parking for GoldWings will be provided further north along the promenade in Marine Drive, however, this area will be reserved only until about 10.30am, when any spare capacity will be released for public parking. Parking in our reserved areas is strictly limited and since the numbers booked in at Cayton Bay Holiday Park has already exceeded those of last year, you are advised to arrive early on Saturday if you wish to display your GoldWing.
When our designated parking areas are full, there’s nothing we can do about late arrivals so they will be expected to find their own parking places.
